Where does the name NewsRog come from? It comes from News, as it netnews, and Rog.
Ok, what does Rog mean then? No one knows. If you have an idea, let us know!
Why do articles sometimes not appear immediately when reading? This is almost always because the news server has taken a while to respond to the request for data. The article prefetch feature of NewsRog can often minimize news server delays, but particulary busy servers sometimes can be very slow. A good way to check out what's going on is to look at the network status window.
Why do some articles appear with broken icons when I try to read them? This means that the article is no longer available on the news server. It may have expired, or it may have been killed. You can remove older articles when reading a group by using the Expire menu option in the group window, which typically removes most unavailable articles.
Why do I sometime get the message Cleaning Cache... when I start reading a group? This means that the group was not properly shut down last time. NewsRog saves some cache information when the group window is closed, and if the computer is rebooted without shutting NewsRog down, this information is lost and must be rebuild. But for most groups, it only takes a few moments.
Why does the abort button sometimes not work? There can be a few causes of this. NewsRog might be busy with some internal computation, although this is rare especially on fast machines. Also, there are several networking operations that are non interuptable and must time out if an error occurs. This is rare too; almost all network IO in newsrog is abortable.
Why are the toolbar icons in greyscale instead of color? If run on a screen with only a few colors, NewsRog displays 8 color greyscale icons instead of the color or truecolor icons used on 16 and 24 bit screens. Running the program on a 16 or 24 bit screen will display the truecolor icons.

In any case, the icons live in PROGDIR:Images and may be replaced with any file in any graphics format for which the system has a datatype, so color or other icons can be used even on register screens.

Why is the article time displayed in the article list not the same as the time in the article headers? NewsRog normalizes these dates to your local timezone, while the time given in the article headers is most often in the local time zone of the posting system. NewsRog normalizes the dates so that it can correctly sort articles by posted date even across different timezones.
